Lourdes funicular

Work started in 1898 and the Pic du Jer funicular was inaugurated on June 17th, 1900. The funicular comprises two tunnels and several viaducts. The travel time is less than 15 minutes. The current vehicles date from the 1950s (reconstruction). Their curb weight is 6 tons and each can carry 80 passengers (40 standing, 40 seated). The lower station, located in the outskirts of the city of Lourdes, can be accessed by urban buses. The upper station is the starting point for interesting walks. The view from the top of the peak (and all along the funicular path) is spectacular.
